Adventures can’t be too small

February 4, 2017by Glenn Tait Leave a comment

When people say “adventure” it brings up connotations of super long journeys over unexplored lands, mountains and oceans but more and more people are challenging that thought. There’s a movement […]

A random run around Edinburgh

November 8, 2014by Glenn Tait 1 Comment

My days are always fairly random. Especially weekends as I usually don’t have much on. When I woke up I knew that at some point during the day I’d run. […]

Double run day! Contrasting weather. Good to be back running to work as opposed to cycling. Two easy runs. I’ve no event in the plan just yet. I’m just ticking over enjoying the running for joy of it. #runner #ukrunchat #activecommute #run #runnersofinstagram #fun #edinburgh #sunrise #view #fun
Sunset skies over New Zealand. There’s something awesome about skies and the colours that are made during sunset. Ending our day watching the horizon dreaming of tomorrow’s adventure and reflecting on the day that’s just been. #travel #sunset #nz #newzealand #wanderlust #skies #getoutside #water #lake #waterfall #sea #view #landscape #reflection #peace
Don’t let cold stop you from getting outside. With the thermometer dropping to -10 outside my house on top of the hill it felt cold. Wrapping up warm and taking it easy on the ice, plus “borrowing” Andy’s bike with wider tyres helped me massively. Shh! Don’t tell 😀 #cyclecommute #chillyonthewilly #freeze #activecommuting #ride #anyweather #cool #frost #minusten
Reflecting back to the night where we didn’t sleep and spent the hours finding controls in the blizzardy tops and windy valleys. I have a sense of satisfaction that despite the worry we didn’t get lost, that we found each one we were after, that we managed to survive deep ravines and craggy outcrops covered in snow. I’ve always thought I could navigate but I also thought that it was helped by spatial awareness of what I could see. This was the first time where zero visibility came into play and we were blind apart from the contour of the land we were standing on. Super impressed with ourselves and also this lovely photo. Also it helps to have a well marked map from @harveymaps to lead you to your destination that survives in the wind, rain and snow and being folded a million times. #maps #navigation #mountainmarathon #marmotdarkmountains #lakedistrict #fellrunning #compass #snow #fun #getoutside #limits #pushinglimits
Excuse the crap picture but this is the moon rising over Barton Fell with a pair of runners heading for control 218. We thankfully had already bagged that control earlier in the night before the snow came at about 1am. This is 4am and we were returning via the low road escaping the snow. We bagged 14 in total, kept to our plan and managed to navigate using map and compass to all our planned points. Satisfying to find a control when others had walked right past it in the blizzard. Also satisfying to find a safe route down into the valley when fatigued and adrenaline running high. We totalled about 30km through the night and loved every minute. #fells #marmotdarkmountains @marmotdarkmountains #mountainmarathon #night #snow #wind #moon #getoutside
Tongariro Crossing Wow, what an adventure that day was. Hiking the 20km North across volcano 🌋 and geothermal activity. Amazing. It’s a popular busy hike but start early and walk moderately and you get your own space. Worth doing if you’re in the North Island of #newzealand I saw some trail runners and was jealous but was happy to have walked to take in the immense view. So alien to my usual trail. Also, Lord of the rings fans, this was used for Mordor and the Black Gate scenes. The mountain is Mount Doom. #nz #hike #volcano #lotr #hike #walk #getoutside #northisland #tongariroalpinecrossing
We had great weather in our recent trip to New Zealand. This particular day was atmospheric and “Scottish” in nature. In fact Scotland is very much like New Zealand. NZ has bigger mountains and a warmer summer climate. I took the opportunity to do a longer run whilst it wasn’t too hot. I climbed the Rocky Mountain and did some laps around the summit, met up with Andy who had hiked up and took in the views when the clag cleared. I then ran down and back to Wanaka taking The Glendhu track. Often I hear people hike up Roy’s Peak but the Rocky Mountain and Diamond lake hike is a rewarding climb. The climb is nice and technical with a mix of rock, long grass and good old mud. Highly recommend! #newzealand #trailrunning #newzealandtrails #trailrunningNZ #travel #runtourist #getoutside
Well that red wine last night made that run difficult. Good to stretch the legs in misty Edinburgh though.
Chilly run in the Pentlands. Ground hard but hollow. Ice cracking underfoot. Silence broken by my footsteps and heavy breathing. Not a bad way to spend Christmas Eve.
An early run up Arthur’s Seat before a Christmas coffee catch up with @helenita410
The English Lake District in all its beauty without a lake in sight😀 I haven’t explored it that much and certainly not been up any peaks yet. That needs to change.
A frozen lake. A golden sunrise. Winters are sometimes good. #cyclecommute #activetravel #getoutside
