Good things come to those who wait… we originally planned this in 2020! Superb places to visit, Grindelwald and the Jungfraujoch region - a hiker’s paradise. Changed my mind on e-bikes. They’re required for mountains. Lake Garda was a good bit of chill. Think we’ve eaten all the pizza and pasta. Venice was a nice ending to a busy trip. Would do it all again. #travel #grindelwald#switzerland#lakegarda#lagodigarda#venice#milan#mountains#scenery
Andy’s birthday weekend away turned out to be epic thanks to the weather. Aberfoyle gravel riding, Loch Ard Canoeing, road riding to Loch Lomond and hiking up Ben Venue. Beautiful place with good food and drink to boot! #hiking#canoe#water#loch#sun#scotland#aberfoyle#cycling#gravelfoyle#roadbike#benvenue#adventure#fun#outsideisfree#beautiful#beauty#sunset#moonrise

Today was a hike. It was meant to be slow. But I had to stop myself from overtaking the hiker ahead. I had all day to do 20km and I needn’t hurry. Heading up toward Easdale Tarn the sun had just risen above the eastern fells. Still cool but you could feel the warmth coming. The steep ascent after Easedale Tarn too me to Stickle Tarn, but before descending i took time to pause, lying down looking out at the view. I wanted to savour it. Remember it. Eventually after a snack I made my way to the main path descending from the tarn to Langdale. I took what seemed the lesser travelled path to the east. Here I found a rock and perched myself to read a few chapters of a book. It was bliss. After a few dozen pages, I drank some water and headed down to the valley, and on towards Chapel Stile where I bought some refreshments from the Langdale Cooperative. I surveyed the land and noticed my route would take me almost vertically up toward grasmere. I was up for it, my legs however were not. The path to the summit was amateur for the lakes, loose rock, no discernible track, it was more animal track than proper way. I imagined someone just decided that this was a route and they started to make a path. I summer this way would be covered in braken, in winter though the dead stems of last summers bracken were still there. Half way up the loose rock path petered out, as if the path builder gave up, got bored, or died before finishing. Either way, I found the top and swiftly descended to grasmere
6am and I’m awake from a dream. The day ahead is promising to be an epic. I’m too eager to start but I force myself to rest for a bit. I would be better off with some more sleep. I dozed until I could no longer. I gingerly went for my morning coffee. Trying to have few human interactions before the caffeine kicks in. I went back to my room and ate two pain au chocolates. My breakfast of choice from the coop last night.
They have hills around here! 🥵
West Cairn Hill from Harperigg. Bog, bog and more bog. The type of run where you succumb to the wet sock immediately and just get on with it. Beautiful views and spring weather.
Awesome day for a ride and a run. Can’t beat blue skies. Not bad after a day at the rugby on the beer either.
It’s been a while since I’ve ventured out in borderline mental weather and also an age since I’ve been in these parts of the hills i so often frequented before my plantar fasciitis. I chose this route so I could use my new inov8 x-talon shoes on boggy terrain and it delivered that. I wasn’t quite expecting having to run at a 30° angle into the wind in order to run forward, but the tail wind around Hare Hill helped me bog hop. The grip is unreal as well as sticky on the icy access road. So top marks for them!
Solid weekend of getting outside. Enjoyed the awesome road bike climb over to Dunning yesterday and today suffering for a 8km pacey run. Foots still meh but im managing it! Bike fitness definitely paying off.
Running! In the hills! On a sunny day. Can’t beat it. It was a great way to finish off a week where I’ve kick started a new plan. A plan to get me running more but also to focus some time in the gym. A major barrier to me going to the gym which is neatly housed in my garage, a mere 5m from my front door, was the lack of focus. So I wrote down some exercises and some goals and a plan. And low and behold I didn’t aimlessly lift some weights every now and then, but actually showed up 3 days and finished the sets I wrote down. Not only that but I managed the 10k steps per day which was put in place as my steps last year tapered off when it got dark.
Mull had some colour though. Wild vistas and wildlife. Eagles, Deer, Buzzards, Sparrow Hawks and sheep. Lots of horizontal rain which meant wine by the fire was imperative and beers in the pub down the road. Happy New Year! #isleofmull #beach#cruachan#treshnish#arospark#mull#scotland#hogmannay #wildlife
