Worth just getting up and out of bed for #sunrise #corstorphine#hill#edinburgh#hiddenscotland#edinburghlife#edinburghclicks#warm#spring#edinburghphotographer#edinburghbloggers#walk#morningwalk
Stunner of a sunset.
Emergency Day Off. Emergency because I needed some adventure and to get out of the mile radius around my house. So I set off to mountain bike to the Pentlands. The conditions were tough, first time riding in snow. I was glad for the vehicle tracks compacting the snow.
I booked out some time this morning for R&R. The active kind. Heading up to the hills with full winter gear before sunrise or twilight. Head torch, crampons, longs, the works. After getting out the car I immediately took the long trousers off as it was warmer higher up than at my house. And I regretted the beany after a few clicks so that got taken off too. I was glad for the crampons tho and the head torch. As first light dawned in Civil Twilight I took off the head torch and used the low light as my guide through a white land. Making up my route On the fly I decided to go the gentle way up which meant I was able to run. Lots of photo stops and also lots of standing still listening to the silence and the birds warbling. The sunrise was good too.
Happy New Year.
I went through my Instagram looking at the year that’s gone by. Without wanting to sound preachy I chose these 9 as my best 9. Not by the likes cos they’re not my endorsement, but by the picture, the thing I took, the way I tried to frame the photo and also by what I was doing when I took it. The only selfie was when I finished the OKT on the Crossing of Scotland, particularly proud of that. But also some really recent photos of sunrises and sunsets, perhaps they’re still happy in my recent memory. I also didn’t take the picture of me down the pipe but that picture reminded me of a good day out.
It was a sketchy icy run this morning. Probably could have done with some ice studs but I prevailed. Awesome to get some winter running done eventually and to catch the light as it was.
Three and a half hills of Edinburgh. I woke up early, forecast for a snow flurry then cloudless winter sky. My head worked out a route to catch the sunrise in various places. It was going to be an urban run.
I’d been pining for sun, hills, daylight, space, escapism and height. So with a free afternoon at work, I took time out to get outside. The sunset run was worth it.
One of those “I’m glad I bothered” type runs.
I notice that if I have a morning walk, I’m more productive at work and have a clearer head. Working from home is great but I’m not moving about as much and even the running has been limited. I definitely need to get better at going outside and moving more often during the day. Yesterday I even did laps of the kitchen island just to move more.
Morning
